Game Tip Tweets

While most players confine their poker advice to their books, videos and live seminars, a few offer insights into the game through their Twitter accounts.

Many of the top players in the game post their thoughts on the action as they sit at high-stakes cash games or major tournaments.  From bragging on their bluffs to lamenting their bad beats, poker players have found “tweeting” to be a useful way to share their ideas.

Mike Caro has earned a reputation as one of the sharpest minds in the game, both as a player and as a best-selling author.  “The Mad Genius of Poker” has written several books, including “Caro’s Book of Poker Tells”, and writes a regular column for a major poker magazine.  He also posts his thoughts on his Twitter page.  Here are some of his insights in short, easy-to-remember quotes:

  • “I've made much money from this powerful poker tactic. How to provide rope so opponents hang themselves.”
  • “Do weak opponents often get lucky and win without skill? It's important to understand this illusion.”
  • “In poker, instead of just hoping for a tell when an opponent bets, you can often create one.”
  • “Break-even poker players can become significant winners instantly by choosing seats scientifically.”
  • “When you're sitting next to someone in poker, look under the table! That's where you'll find his tell.”

Jonathan Gelling is also a best-selling poker author and tournament strategy expert.  He has also assembled a list of poker tips on his Twitter account that can improve a player’s approach to the game.

  • “Ironically it's more dangerous to "play it safe" on the cusp of a tournament”
  • “Sometimes the direct approach is the most unexpected”
  • “It's difficult to make money on your very best hands”
  • “If you're new to tournaments, look for events with smaller fields (~200)”
  • “Every hand presents varying degrees of opportunity or danger; consider the pros and cons of playing”
